11	A cake is cut into 8 equal pieces. May eats 3/8 of the cake and Tom eats 2/8 of it. (a) What fraction of the cake is eaten? (b) How many pieces are left?	(a) 3/8 + 2/8 = 5/8 of the cake. (b) 1 − 5/8 = 3/8, and 3/8 of 8 pieces = 3 pieces left.
12	One bag of rice has a mass of 2 kg 500 g. Ken buys 4 such bags. Find the total mass in kilograms.	One bag: 2 × 1,000 + 500 = 2,500 g. Four bags: 2,500 × 4 = 10,000 g = 10 kg.
13	A film starts at 7:45 p.m. and lasts 1 hour 40 minutes. At what time does the film end?	7:45 + 1 hour = 8:45; 8:45 + 40 minutes = 9:25 p.m.. (100 + 45 = 145 minutes, so 1 hour 25 minutes in total.)

(a) 8 × 24 = 192 pencils. (b) 192 ÷ 6 = 32 pencils per class. (1 mark for the multiplication, 1 for the division, 1 for the working order.)
