3	Solve 4x + 7 = 39.	4x = 39 − 7 = 32, so x = 8. (Check: 4 × 8 + 7 = 39.)
4	Solve 3(x − 5) = 27.	x − 5 = 27 ÷ 3 = 9, so x = 14. (Check: 3 × 9 = 27.)
5	A triangle has a base of 14 cm and a height of 9 cm. Find its area.	14 × 9 ÷ 2 = 63 cm². Remember to halve the product.
6	A parallelogram has a base of 12 cm and a height of 7 cm. Find its area.	12 × 7 = 84 cm²
7	A cuboid measures 9 cm by 5 cm by 4 cm. Find its volume.	9 × 5 × 4 = 180 cm³
8	A circle has a radius of 8 cm. (a) Write down its diameter. (b) Another circle has a diameter of 26 cm. Write down its radius.	(a) 8 × 2 = 16 cm. (b) 26 ÷ 2 = 13 cm. The diameter passes through the centre; the radius is half of the diameter.

11	After Ali spends $35, he has $58 left. (a) Form an equation to find the amount $x he had at first. (b) Solve the equation.	(a) x − 35 = 58. (b) x = 58 + 35 = 93, so Ali had $93 at first.
12	The masses of five boxes are 12, 15, 9, 18, 16 kg. (a) Find the total mass. (b) Find the mean mass.	(a) 12 + 15 + 9 + 18 + 16 = 70 kg. (b) 70 ÷ 5 = 14 kg.
13	A bottle holds 3/4 L of juice. It is poured equally into cups of 1/8 L each. How many cups can be filled?	3/4 ÷ 1/8 = 3/4 × 8 = 6 cups. (Invert the divisor before multiplying.)

(c) How many flags can be cut, and how much cloth is left?	(a) 24 × 15 ÷ 2 = 180 cm². (b) 90 × 60 = 5400 cm². (c) 5400 ÷ 180 = 30 flags; no cloth is left over.
16	A recipe needs 2/3 kg of flour for one cake. (a) How much flour is needed for 9 cakes? (b) Flour is sold in bags of 1 1/2 kg. How many bags must be bought for 9 cakes?	(a) 2/3 × 9 = 6 kg. (b) 6 ÷ 1 1/2 = 6 ÷ 3/2 = 4 bags. The answer must be a whole number of bags.
