03 Answers and one-line notes

# Answer One-line note
1 1 ten and 4 ones The tens digit of 14 is 1 and the ones digit is 4, so 14 is 1 ten and 4 ones.
2 13 8 plus 2 makes 10, then add 3 more to get 13.
3 8 Take 7 away from 17 to reach 10, then take 2 more to get 8.
4 2 Only 13 and 14 sit between 12 and 15, so there are 2.
5 19 The odd numbers are 1, 3, 5 … 19, and 19 is the largest under 20.
6 12 3 plus 4 is 7, and 7 plus 5 is 12.
7 5 A difference is found by subtracting: 18 – 13 = 5.
8 16 9 comes before 16 on the number line, so 16 is greater.
9 17 Altogether means addition: 10 + 7 = 17.
10 12 20 – 8 = 12; 14 comes from subtracting 6 instead of 8.

04 What to do after marking

  • After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
  • Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
  • Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
