03 Answers and one-line notes

# Answer One-line note
1 15 Work left to right: 18 – 7 = 11 and 11 + 4 = 15.
2 7 Work backwards with subtraction: 15 – 8 = 7.
3 7 + 5 = 12 A subtraction can be rewritten as addition: the difference plus the number taken away gives the start.
4 20 Four 5s added together make 5 x 4 = 20.
5 8 20 – 6 = 14 and 14 – 6 = 8.
6 5 The numbers are 5, 6 and 7, so the smallest is 5.
7 3 The numbers between them are 16, 17 and 18, so there are 3.
8 $8 She has less, so 14 – 6 = 8 dollars.
9 5 The right side is 20 – 3 = 17, and 17 – 12 = 5.
10 15 9 plus 1 makes 10, then add 5 to get 15; 14 is one short.

04 What to do after marking

  • After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
  • Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
  • Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
