Primary English: Conditionals Challenge (10 Questions)
The third paper mixes everything: the third conditional with had and the past participle against would have and the past participle, the mixed conditional with a past condition and a present result, unless, the inversion Had I, and three correction items on will inside the if-clause, would inside the if-clause and a main clause missing have.
Quick answer The third conditional pairs had with the past participle in the if-clause and would have with the past participle in the main clause; a mixed conditional keeps a past condition but gives a present result with would and the base verb; unless means if not and keeps the present tense; Had I known equals If I had known; and the corrections remove will and would from the if-clause and restore have in the main clause.

03 Answers and one-line notes
| # | Answer | One-line note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | would have passed | The third conditional main clause takes would have with the past participle. |
| 2 | had left | An unreal past condition puts the if-clause in had with the past participle. |
| 3 | hadn’t forgotten | The negative if-clause uses hadn’t with the past participle. |
| 4 | would feel | A mixed conditional keeps the past condition but gives a present result with would and the base verb. |
| 5 | If it rains tomorrow, we will stay at home. The if-clause uses the present tense instead of will. | The if-clause never takes will, even about the future. |
| 6 | If I were rich, I would travel the world. The if-clause takes the past tense were and never would. | Would belongs in the main clause, and be becomes were in the if-clause. |
| 7 | If she had known, she would have told me. The main clause needs would have with the past participle. | A past perfect if-clause pairs with would have and the past participle. |
| 8 | will miss | Unless means if not, so the clause stays present and the main clause takes will. |
| 9 | would have left | The inversion Had I replaces If I had, and the main clause still takes would have with the past participle. |
| 10 | were | An unreal present condition takes were for be. |
04 What to do after marking
- After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
- Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
- Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
