S4 English: Summary and Note-making – Practice Paper 4 (Error Redo, 10 Questions)
Paper four is error redo only: word limits, how many points to give, paraphrasing versus copying, time allocation, figures and strength words – ten items with answers and one-line notes.
Quick answer Marks for summary and note-making come from choosing the right points and putting them in your own words; limits and format are only gatekeepers.

03 Answers and one-line notes
| # | Answer | One-line note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cut 28 words (23.3% over the limit) and keep only the credited points; do not shorten every sentence. | A word limit is a hard limit: words beyond it earn nothing. |
| 2 | Hand in 3, the ones with the clearest textual support; extra points earn nothing and show weak selection. | Count the points the question asks for before you start writing. |
| 3 | 2 marks per point; a missing point costs 2 marks. | 6 divided by 3 is 2: the marks are shared evenly between the points. |
| 4 | No: restructure the sentence and change word forms; trimming words is not rewriting and copying scores nothing. | Rewriting means changing the subject, word forms and clause order while keeping the meaning. |
| 5 | Write the 2 with the clearest support in the text and leave the others out. | Extra points expose weak selection and cost time. |
| 6 | 17 minutes left; 1.7 minutes per item. | 25 minus 8 is 17, and 17 divided by 10 is 1.7: do the items you are sure of first. |
| 7 | Count the points required, then check every sub-heading in turn instead of reading only the first paragraph. | Points usually follow the sub-headings, so matching them one by one is safest. |
| 8 | Use point form, arrows and standard abbreviations, mainly noun phrases. | Notes are marked on the density of points, not on complete sentences. |
| 9 | Copy figures from the text and check them; the two figures differ by 2 percentage points. | Copy percentages and units exactly as printed and check each one before you finish. |
| 10 | Yes: strength words cannot be changed. Some and all mean different things, so the rewrite is wrong. | Rewriting changes the wording, never the strength of the claim. |
04 What to do after marking
- After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
- Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
- Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
