03 Answers and one-line notes
| # | Answer | One-line note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | High density high rise development, an axis along rail corridors, and core business districts around Victoria Harbour | Steep terrain and scarce flat land push the city upward and along rail corridors, with Central and East Tsim Sha Tsui as core business districts. |
| 2 | Housing next to a container yard, where night time loading noise and heavy vehicles disturb residents | When uses are mixed the external costs of business fall on nearby households, so planning separates noxious uses. |
| 3 | 204 000 people | Population is density times area, and 24 000 times 8.5 is 204 000. |
| 4 | To decentralise population, provide local jobs and supply a full range of community facilities | New towns aim at self containment so residents can work and use schools and hospitals locally, cutting cross district travel. |
| 5 | 18 000 square metres | Floor area is site area times plot ratio, so 2400 times 7.5 is 18 000. |
| 6 | 6500 km | Twenty six times 250 is 6500, and long journeys add to traffic pressure and emissions. |
| 7 | 15 per cent | Fourteen point four over ninety six times 100 is 15 per cent. |
| 8 | About 33.3 per cent denser | Thirty six thousand over twenty seven thousand is 1.333, so A is about a third denser. |
| 9 | 1600 flats | Floor area scales with plot ratio, and 8 over 5 is 1.6, so 1000 times 1.6 is 1600. |
| 10 | High density with good transport, parks and community facilities can still support a good quality of life, so per capita space and provision must be judged together | Density is only one indicator, and planning quality and facilities matter as much. |
04 What to do after marking
- After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
- Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
- Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
