Primary 1 Maths: Addition and Subtraction within 100 — Practice Paper 1 (10 Questions)

Paper 1 follows the five steps of the lesson plan: make-ten within 20, column carrying, column borrowing, then three-number addition and a change problem. Every answer shows the middle step so parents can see where it went wrong.

Quick answer 10 questions, about 15 minutes. Items 01 to 04 are within 20, items 05 to 07 are two-digit column work with carrying and borrowing, items 08 and 09 are three-number addition and change, item 10 targets forgetting to reduce the tens after borrowing.

03 Answers and one-line notes

# Answer One-line note
1 16 9 needs 1 to reach 10: take 1 from the 7 for 9 + 1 = 10, then add the other 6 to get 16.
2 7 Take 6 first to reach 10, then the other 3: 16 − 6 − 3 = 7.
3 13 8 needs 2 to reach 10: take 2 from the 5 for 8 + 2 = 10, then add the 3 to get 13.
4 8 Take 5 first to reach 10, then the other 2: 15 − 5 − 2 = 8.
5 73 Units: 5 + 8 = 13, write 3 and carry 1; tens: 4 + 2 + 1 = 7, so 73.
6 26 Units: 4 is less than 8, borrow 1 for 14 − 8 = 6; tens: 5 − 3 = 2, so 26.
7 63 Units: 6 + 7 = 13, write 3 and carry 1; tens: 3 + 2 + 1 = 6, so 63.
8 80 First 28 + 35 = 63 (carry 1), then add 17: 63 + 17 = 80 (carry 1 again, tens 6 + 1 + 1 = 8).
9 $25 Units: 2 is less than 7, borrow 1 for 12 − 7 = 5; tens 5 − 3 = 2, so $25 is left.
10 27 Units: 4 is less than 7, borrow 1 for 14 − 7 = 7; tens: 8 loses 1 to become 7, and 7 − 5 = 2, so 27.

04 What to do after marking

  • After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
  • Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
  • Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
