Primary 4 Maths: Equivalent Fractions and Decimals — Practice Paper 3 (10 Questions)

Paper 3 links expanding, reducing and converting: expand and reduce first, then change fractions to decimals and back, compare and order three values, add eighths, compare on a common denominator, and finish with the “0.34 for 3/4” error.

Quick answer 10 questions, about 20 minutes. Items 01 to 03 cover expanding, reducing and fraction to decimal; items 04 to 06 cover decimal to fraction, comparing a fraction with a decimal, and a chain of equal fractions; items 07 to 09 order three values, add eighths and compare on eighteenths; item 10 redoes copying the digits instead of dividing.

03 Answers and one-line notes

# Answer One-line note
1 12/20 5 × 4 = 20, so the numerator is 3 × 4 = 12.
2 3/4 The highest common factor of 36 and 48 is 12; divide both by 12 to get 3/4.
3 0.875 7 ÷ 8 = 0.875: divide the numerator by the denominator.
4 13/20 0.65 = 65/100, and dividing both by 5 gives 13/20.
5 5/8 (0.625) is larger 5 ÷ 8 = 0.625, which is 0.025 more than 0.6; as fortieths 5/8 = 25/40 and 0.6 = 24/40.
6 4/6, 6/9 and 8/12 Multiply top and bottom by 2, 3 and 4 to get 4/6, 6/9 and 8/12; all equal 2/3.
7 3/8 < 2/5 < 0.45 3 ÷ 8 = 0.375 and 2 ÷ 5 = 0.4, so the order is 0.375, 0.4, 0.45.
8 1/8; the total is 1/2, or 0.5 0.125 = 125/1000, and dividing both by 125 gives 1/8; then 1/8 + 3/8 = 4/8 = 1/2.
9 5/6, by 1/18 On eighteenths, 5/6 = 15/18 and 7/9 = 14/18, so the difference is 1/18, about 0.056.
10 The correct values are 0.75 and 0.4; the digits were copied instead of dividing Divide the numerator by the denominator: 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75 and 2 ÷ 5 = 0.4. Copying the two numbers as digits is wrong.

04 What to do after marking

  • After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
  • Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
  • Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
