Primary 4 Maths: Area of Rectangles and Squares — Practice Paper 4 (10 Questions)
Paper 4 puts area and perimeter side by side: area and perimeter from the sides, then the same perimeter with different areas, area back from a perimeter, a cut corner, paint coverage, tiles counted in square centimetres, and the mixed metre and centimetre error. Item 10 redoes multiplying without changing units first.
Quick answer 10 questions, about 20 minutes. Items 01 to 03 find the area from a side or from length and width, and the length back from the area; items 04 to 06 compare areas under the same perimeter, find the area from a perimeter, and handle a cut corner; items 07 to 09 cover paint, perimeter from an area and tiling; item 10 redoes the mixed-unit error.

03 Answers and one-line notes
| # | Answer | One-line note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 144 cm² | 12 × 12 = 144: multiply the side by itself. |
| 2 | Area 120 cm², perimeter 58 cm | 24 × 5 = 120 gives the area; 2 × (24 + 5) = 58 gives the perimeter. |
| 3 | 12 cm | 72 ÷ 6 = 12: divide the area by the width. |
| 4 | The square, by 4 cm² | The square has side 24 ÷ 4 = 6 cm and area 36 cm²; the rectangle has area 32 cm², so the difference is 4 cm². |
| 5 | 144 cm² | The side is 48 ÷ 4 = 12 cm, then 12 × 12 = 144 cm². |
| 6 | 84 cm² | The card is 96 cm², the cut corner is 12 cm², so 96 − 12 = 84 cm² is left. |
| 7 | 2 litres | 5 × 3 = 15 m², and 15 ÷ 10 = 1.5 litres; with whole litres only, 2 litres are needed. |
| 8 | 32 cm | An area of 64 cm² gives a side of 8 cm, so the perimeter is 4 × 8 = 32 cm. |
| 9 | 48 tiles | The room is 400 × 300 = 120 000 cm² and each tile is 2 500 cm², so 120 000 ÷ 2 500 = 48. |
| 10 | 6 000 cm², which is 0.6 m²; the metre was not changed to centimetres | 2 m = 200 cm, so 200 × 30 = 6 000 cm²; writing 2 × 30 = 60 multiplies different units. |
04 What to do after marking
- After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
- Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
- Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
