Primary 6 Maths: Speed — Practice Paper 2
Paper 2 works the three formulas in both directions: speed from distance and time, distance from speed and time, and time from distance and speed. It also converts between m/s and km/h with the factor 3.6 and fixes a units error.
Quick answer 10 questions, about 20 minutes. Items 01 to 03 find a speed, a distance and a speed in m/s; items 04 to 06 find a time and convert 12 m/s and 36 km/h; items 07 to 09 shorten a journey, use metres per minute and compare two cars; item 10 redos taking 30 minutes as 30 hours.

03 Answers and one-line notes
| # | Answer | One-line note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 60 km/h | Speed is distance divided by time: 120 divided by 2 is 60 km/h. |
| 2 | 135 km | Distance is speed times time: 45 x 3 = 135 km. |
| 3 | 6 m/s | 150 divided by 25 is 6 m/s. |
| 4 | 2.5 hours | Time is distance divided by speed: 200 divided by 80 is 2.5 hours. |
| 5 | 43.2 km/h | To change m/s into km/h multiply by 3.6: 12 x 3.6 = 43.2 km/h. |
| 6 | 10 m/s | To change km/h into m/s divide by 3.6: 36 divided by 3.6 is 10 m/s. |
| 7 | 80 km/h | The first speed is 240 divided by 4, that is 60 km/h; in 3 hours it is 240 divided by 3, that is 80 km/h. |
| 8 | 80 m/min | 400 divided by 5 is 80 m/min; the unit must match the unit of time. |
| 9 | The same distance, 180 km each | A gives 90 x 2 = 180 km and B gives 75 x 2.4 = 180 km, so both go the same distance. |
| 10 | The pupil used 30 hours instead of 30 minutes; in hours it is 0.5, so 60 x 0.5 = 30 km | The units of time must match first: 30 minutes is 0.5 hours, so the answer is 30 km. |
04 What to do after marking
- After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
- Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
- Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
