03 Answers and one-line notes
| # | Answer | One-line note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 85 marks | Forty plus forty-five is eighty-five. |
| 2 | 40 marks | Eight times five is forty, which matches the Part A total. |
| 3 | 65 minutes | Seventy-five minus ten is sixty-five. |
| 4 | 36 marks | Eighteen times two is thirty-six. |
| 5 | About 42.4 per cent (42.35 per cent) | Thirty-six out of eighty-five is 0.4235, so about 42.4 per cent. |
| 6 | 0.9 marks a minute | Forty-five divided by fifty is 0.9. |
| 7 | 120 words a minute | Nine hundred and sixty divided by eight is 120. |
| 8 | 72 out of 85, that is about 84.7 per cent | Thirty-two plus forty is seventy-two, and seventy-two over eighty-five is about 84.7 per cent. |
| 9 | About 2.7 minutes | Sixty-five divided by twenty-four is about 2.7. |
| 10 | 80 per cent | Sixty over seventy-five is 0.8, that is 80 per cent; the score itself is not the percentage. |
04 What to do after marking
- After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
- Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
- Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
