Section B — Reading Comprehension (40 分)

The Book Fair

Our school held a book fair in the school hall last week. Every class visited the fair with its English teacher, and parents could come after school.

There were story books, picture books, and books about animals and space. Each book cost 20 dollars. Every pupil could buy 2 books at most, so the pupils read the first page of a book before they chose it.

The table below shows the number of books sold on each of the four days. Class 3A helped at the fair. Amy and Ben stood at the door and gave every visitor a bookmark. On Thursday the hall was full, so the helpers opened a second table near the stairs.

The fair closed on Friday. The money raised will buy new books for the school library. Miss Chan, the librarian, said, “You chose your books carefully. A book you enjoy is better than ten books you never open.”

The Blue Bicycle

The book I read last month is called The Blue Bicycle. It is about a girl called Sara and her little dog. Sara rode her bicycle to the beach and found a bag with a purse in it. I liked the book because Sara was brave and kind, and the last page made me laugh.

Give the title — a pupil who writes about “a book” without giving the title loses 3 of the 12 content marks.
Past tense — a pupil who writes “Sara ride her bicycle” loses Language marks; write the corrected verb above the error.
A story summary is not a review — a pupil who only retells the story without saying why they liked it scores at most 6 of 12 for content.
