How this paper was built

This is a TutorZone original mock paper: the questions follow the College Board AP Macroeconomics format (Section II free response) and the answers are our own, not College Board questions or marking references.

The numerical answer (multiplier) was recomputed programmatically.

Note before you start: this is not a College Board paper. Your score is a practice score and cannot be converted into an AP score (1-5).

Answers and marks per question

Question 1

GDP is the total market value of all final goods and services produced in an economy over a period (6); it measures the economy’s total output / size (4).

Question 2

Inflation is a sustained rise in the general price level (5); it reduces the purchasing power of money, cutting cash holders’ real wealth (5).

Question 3

Frictional unemployment is temporary, between jobs (5); structural unemployment is longer-term, from a mismatch between workers’ skills and job requirements (5).

Question 4

Multiplier = 1 / (1 – MPC) (5) = 1 / 0.2 = 5 (5).

What is the difference between frictional and structural unemployment?

Direct answer: frictional is temporary between jobs; structural is longer-term from a skills mismatch.

06

Where these marks are usually lost

Mistake What it looks like What it costs Instead
Wrong multiplier formula 1/MPC The multiplier is 1/(1-MPC) Multiplier = 1 / (1 – MPC)
Unemployment types Frictional as structural Frictional is between jobs, structural is a skills mismatch Frictional = between jobs, structural = skills mismatch
Inflation effect Cash gaining value Inflation lowers cash’s purchasing power Inflation -> lower purchasing power
