HKDSE Mathematics Past Papers: Official Sources, Year Range and Drill Order
- 2026-10-09
TUTORZONE RESOURCE GUIDE · HKDSE MATHS PAST PAPERS
This page collects the official routes to HKDSE Mathematics past papers, the year range worth drilling and the order to use them. We do not host or re-upload HKEAA papers – the question papers and marking references are published by HKEAA and should be obtained from official sources. What follows is how to use them, not where to copy them.
Where do I get HKDSE Maths past papers?
Direct answer: through official channels – the question papers and marking references published by HKEAA, plus the assessment frameworks, sample papers and examination reports on its HKDSE subject information pages. TutorZone does not host or re-upload HKEAA papers (the copyright belongs to HKEAA); this page offers sources and usage advice only.

Assessment at a glance (2027)
| Component | Content | Weighting | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official source · HKEAA | Question papers and marking references are published by HKEAA; its HKDSE subject information pages list the assessment frameworks, sample papers and examination reports | — | — |
| Year range · from 2012 | The DSE Mathematics examination began in 2012; by topic coverage, 2012 onwards covers almost all of the current Compulsory Part | — | — |
| Order of use · three stages | By topic to build the base, by year to train pace, then back to by topic in the last 3-4 weeks to plug holes | — | — |
The efficiency of past-paper work comes from sorting: classify by topic and paper first, then sequence. Working from 2012 to the present in order usually loses focus half-way and never targets your weak points.
What each paper is actually testing
| Paper | Drill focus | How marks are lost |
|---|---|---|
| Official source · HKEAA | Prioritise the official examination reports: they list common candidate errors, which is more targeted than another paper | Reading questions without the marking reference, so the writing never improves |
| Year range · from 2012 | With limited time, the latest five years must be done properly; they match the current papers most closely | Doing only the latest year, which covers too little |
| Order of use · three stages | Time every attempt, and compare with the marking reference rather than only the final answer | Treating past papers as a slow question bank with no timer |
Do I need to go back to 2012?
Direct answer: not necessarily end to end. The DSE Mathematics examination began in 2012 and by topic coverage covers almost all of the current Compulsory Part; in practice sit the latest five years fully timed and use earlier years only to fill your weak topics, question by question.
Drill order: by topic, then by year, then the mark scheme
| Step | What you do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1. By topic | Work through each topic, starting with the paper that allows least help (no calculator / closed book) | Exposes what is genuinely not understood |
| 2. By year | Whole papers to time, one or two a week | Trains pace, stamina and question selection |
| 3. Mark scheme | Go through the marking scheme question by question and log the scoring steps you missed | Most lost marks are written wrong, not thought wrong |
Are the examination reports worth reading?
Direct answer: Very. HKEAA’s examination reports list the common candidate errors of that year (missing solutions in trigonometric equations, muddled probability classification), which is the examiner telling you where the marks go. Read the report before drilling a paper and you save a lot of guesswork.
A 12-week drilling timetable
| Week | Phase | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Weeks 1-3 | By topic: foundation | Topic by topic, starting with the easiest marks, building habits and recall |
| Weeks 4-6 | By topic: core | 8-10 years of the same topic back to back, errors classified by topic |
| Weeks 7-8 | By topic: advanced and electives | Elective and higher-order topics, now under time pressure |
| Weeks 9-10 | By year: timed papers | One full paper a week, timed, no reference materials |
| Week 11 | Mark scheme work | Question by question against the marking scheme; list the scoring steps you omitted |
| Week 12 | Plug holes and simulate | Only the recurring errors from your log, then one full exam simulation |
Subject-specific weighting for this timetable: File papers by year and paper, and build a topic-year-question-difficulty index in a spreadsheet; all later drilling is pulled from it.
Use it properly: this is not a checklist to finish. Every week must keep time for redoing errors, or from week 9 you will be repeating the same batch.
Pacing
| Paper | Time | Suggested split |
|---|---|---|
| Official source · HKEAA | — | Download and file by year-paper |
| Year range · from 2012 | — | Latest five fully timed; earlier years by topic |
| Order of use · three stages | — | Timed full papers no more than a third of total drilling |
Can I use aggregator sites that re-post papers?
Direct answer: mind the copyright. HKEAA owns the copyright in its question papers, and unauthorised re-posting may infringe it; verify the legitimacy of any source and prefer officially published or licensed material. This page provides no download links to any question paper.
The drilling mistakes that cost the most marks
| Mistake | What it looks like | What actually happens | Instead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Using papers without the marking reference | Checking answers and stopping | The writing never improves | Compare with the marking reference and log the missing scoring steps |
| Working 2012 upwards in order | Oldest to newest | Focus is lost and weak topics are never targeted | Classify first, then drill topic by topic |
| Using papers of unknown provenance | Forum or file-share downloads | Possible infringement, and the files are often incomplete | Use HKEAA publications or licensed material |
The error log and the mark scheme
Build a question index: topic, year, paper, question number, difficulty, date attempted and outcome. That table is your drilling dashboard.
How many years should you drill?
From 2012 the papers cover almost all of the current Compulsory Part; with limited time the latest five years are essential and earlier years fill weak topics.
How many years count as enough?
Direct answer: no official figure. By topic coverage, 2012 onwards suffices; with limited time the latest five must be done properly and earlier years used for weak topics. The test is not how many years you touched but whether you have seen each topic set in different ways and can produce it under time.
Frequently asked questions
Does TutorZone host past papers?
No. The copyright in HKEAA papers belongs to HKEAA; this page gives sources and usage advice, and our own material is original mock content.
Do M1/M2 need separate papers?
Yes. M1 and M2 are separate units with their own papers, though each is a single 2 h 30 min paper worth 100%.
May I use an app instead?
You may, but check that the content is official or licensed; screenshot-based apps often have missing pages or wrong answers.

Next step: find a tutor / register as a tutor
After drilling, the hard part is telling a conceptual error from a writing error. Tell us the year group, the school and your available times, and TutorZone will match you with a tutor who knows the HKEAA assessment requirements.
Demand for tutors in this subject is steady, and those who can explain the marking scheme and where marks are won are especially sought after. Register free; you pay only when a match succeeds.
