DSE Physical Education Mock (Paper 2): Fitness, Energy Systems, Sport Values
- 2026-10-12
TUTORZONE ORIGINAL MOCK PAPER · HKDSE PHYSICAL EDUCATION PAPER 2 (LONG QUESTIONS)
Written to the HKEAA 2027 framework: PE has Paper 1 42% (MC + short questions, 2 h, compulsory), Paper 2 18% (three long questions, answer two, 1 h 30 min) and Paper 3 40% (practical). This paper demonstrates three Paper 2 long questions (25 marks each) with model-answer points.
What is in the DSE PE exam?
Direct answer: three papers: Paper 1 42% (MC + short, 2 h, compulsory), Paper 2 18% (three long questions, answer two, 1 h 30 min) and Paper 3 40% (practical: two activities 13.33% each + fitness 13.33%).

Assessment at a glance (2027)
| Component | Content | Weighting | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 2 (long questions) | Two of three questions across three themes | 18% | 1 h 30 min |
| Paper 1 (MC + short questions) | Section A MC + Section B short, all compulsory | 42% | 2 h |
| Paper 3 (practical) | Two activities 13.33% each + fitness 13.33% | 40% | practical assessment |
Two questions in 1 h 30 min is about 45 minutes each. Answers need point, principle and example, using precise PE vocabulary (FITT, VO2max, ATP-PC).
How this paper was built
This is a TutorZone original mock paper: the questions follow the 2027 framework (Paper 2 at 18% over 1 h 30 min, answer two of three) and the model-answer points are our own.
The questions and answers are TutorZone originals; no HKEAA question or in-copyright text is reproduced.
Pacing
| Section | Marks | Suggested time | What to do first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paper 2 (long questions) | 18% | about 45 min per question | point, principle, example |
| Paper 1 (MC + short questions) | 42% | about 30 min MC, 90 min short | answer with precise PE vocabulary |
| Paper 3 (practical) | 40% | one ball game + one from athletics/gymnastics/swimming | movement skills and fitness level |
How do I score well on Paper 2?
Direct answer: give point, principle and example, using precise PE vocabulary (FITT, VO2max, the ATP-PC system).
Paper 2 long questions: 3 demonstrated (25 marks each)
Paper 2 is answer two of three; three questions are demonstrated here for the common topics (fitness, energy systems, sport values).
Question 1 (25 marks)
Long question 1: health-related fitness. Explain the components of health-related fitness, and describe how regular exercise improves cardiorespiratory endurance.
Question 2 (25 marks)
Long question 2: energy systems. Explain the three energy systems used in exercise, and the difference between aerobic and anaerobic exercise.
Question 3 (25 marks)
Long question 3: values of sport and pressure. Explain the values of sport, and discuss the pressure athletes face and how to cope.
What are the components of health-related fitness?
Direct answer: five: cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition.
Model-answer points and marks per question
Question 1
Model-answer points (25): (1) Components: cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition (8). (2) Improving endurance: sustained aerobic exercise (running, swimming, cycling) using the FITT principle (frequency, intensity, time, type) progressively (9). (3) Principle: aerobic training raises cardiac output and VO2max, making the heart and lungs more efficient (8).
Question 2
Model-answer points (25): (1) Three systems: the ATP-PC system (short bursts, within ~10 s), the lactic-acid system (short-to-medium, ~1-3 min) and the aerobic system (long, sustained) (12). (2) Aerobic vs anaerobic: aerobic uses oxygen, lasts long, fuelled by fat and carbohydrate; anaerobic needs no oxygen, high intensity but brief, producing lactate (8). (3) Examples: the 100 m sprint (anaerobic) vs the marathon (aerobic) (5).
Question 3
Model-answer points (25): (1) Values: fitness and health, discipline and teamwork, socialising and fair play (8). (2) Pressure: performance anxiety, public expectation, injury and retirement worries (8). (3) Coping: goal-setting, relaxation and visualisation, counselling, and progressive training with recovery (9).
What are the three energy systems?
Direct answer: the ATP-PC system (short bursts, ~10 s), the lactic-acid system (~1-3 min) and the aerobic system (long, sustained).
Where these marks are usually lost
| Mistake | What it looks like | What it costs | Instead |
|---|---|---|---|
| No principle | Listing components without principles | Long answers need principle and example | Support with FITT, VO2max and so on |
| Loose vocabulary | Confusing fitness terms | The scheme wants precise PE vocabulary | Use health-related fitness, cardiorespiratory endurance etc. |
| One side only | Values but not pressure and coping | Questions ask for both sides | Break the question down and answer each part |
How to use this paper
First sit: the full 1 h 30 min answering two questions with no references.
Mark it: check every point has a principle and example and precise vocabulary.
Second sit: redo three to seven days later, aiming for two questions inside 1 h 15 min.
What should I do after finishing this paper?
Direct answer: log questions lacking principles or precise vocabulary; redo in three to seven days; and drill Paper 1 MC and short answers for vocabulary.
