Primary 5 Maths: Mixed Fraction Multiplication and Division — Practice Paper 3 (10 Questions)

Paper 3 is about order: brackets first, multiplication and division left to right, and rewriting the whole line as multiplication before cancelling. The last items add a rope with a remainder and comparing a quotient with a product.

Quick answer 10 questions, about 25 minutes. Items 05 and 06 test left-to-right order and full rewriting; items 08 to 10 cost the most marks, so mark after finishing.

03 Answers and one-line notes

# Answer One-line note
1 1 1/2 Flip only the divisor: 2/3 × 9/4 = 18/12 = 1 1/2.
2 1/6 Cancel first: 5 with 15 gives 1 and 3, 4 with 8 gives 1 and 2, so 1/6.
3 2 Make both improper: 7/2 ÷ 7/4 = 7/2 × 4/7 = 2.
4 1 Brackets first: 3/4 × 2/1 = 3/2, then × 2/3 gives 1.
5 1 1/3 Left to right: 3/2 × 2/3 = 1, then ÷ 3/4 means × 4/3.
6 3/4 Rewrite everything as multiplication: 7/8 × 15/14 × 4/5, which cancels to 3/4.
7 1/4 kg The remainder is 1/3 of the whole: 3/4 × 1/3 = 1/4.
8 7 pieces, 1/18 m left over 5/6 ÷ 1/9 = 15/2 = 7.5, so only 7 whole pieces; the remainder is 5/6 − 7/9 = 1/18 m.
9 2/3 ÷ 4/5 is larger (5/6 > 8/15) Dividing by a fraction below 1 makes it bigger, multiplying makes it smaller; confirm on a common denominator.
10 1 3/5 Left to right: 4/5 × 3/2 = 6/5, then × 4/3 = 8/5.

04 What to do after marking

  • After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
  • Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
  • Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
