03 Answers and one-line notes

# Answer One-line note
1 3/4 Cancel first: 5 with 10 gives 1 and 2, 9 with 6 gives 3 and 2, so 3/4.
2 1 1/3 Flip the divisor: 7/8 × 32/21, which cancels to 4/3, or 1 1/3.
3 2 Both become improper: 8/3 ÷ 4/3 = 8/3 × 3/4 = 2.
4 15 An integer divided by a fraction: flip and multiply, 9 × 5/3 = 15.
5 1 Left to right: 4/9 × 3/8 = 1/6, then ÷ 1/6 = 1.
6 2/5 The word of means a second taking, so multiply: 3/5 × 2/3 = 2/5, not add or subtract.
7 40 L The remainder is 1 − 3/8 = 5/8 of the whole; part to whole means divide: 25 ÷ 5/8 = 40.
8 1/2 m² Length × width = 4/5 × 5/8; the two 5s cancel, leaving 1/2 m².
9 117/160 Work out 6/5 and 15/32 first, then subtract on 160ths: 192/160 − 75/160.
10 1 1/3 Multiplication and division rank equally, so go left to right: 5/6 × 12/5 = 2, then × 2/3 = 4/3.

04 What to do after marking

  • After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
  • Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
  • Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
