03 Answers and one-line notes
| # | Answer | One-line note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | is / was | Now takes the present is while ten years ago takes the past was. |
| 2 | Were | You takes were in the past of be, and the question puts were first. |
| 3 | walks / took | Usually marks a habit in the present simple, while yesterday marks one past exception. |
| 4 | did / start | The past question uses did with the base verb start, without a second -ed. |
| 5 | were not | The negative of be simply adds not; did not be is never used. |
| 6 | lost / called | Lose is irregular and becomes lost, while call takes -ed, and both clauses are past. |
| 7 | left / arrived | Both actions happened yesterday, so both verbs stay in the past simple. |
| 8 | Did you see the rainbow yesterday? | Did already marks the past, so the main verb must be the base form see. |
| 9 | Example: I woke up at seven. I ate breakfast with my family. I finished my homework before dinner. | Every sentence needs one past verb, and the time marker can go at the end. |
| 10 | He went to the market yesterday. | With the full verb go, the past is went; was with a base verb is wrong. |
04 What to do after marking
- After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
- Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
- Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
