03 Answers and one-line notes

# Answer One-line note
1 30 / 20 = 1.5 minutes each. Work out the average first so you know when a question is overrunning.
2 4 x 30 = 120 seconds, that is 2 minutes. Tidying time is limited, so budget it per section.
3 Answer in labelled points: two causes and one suggestion, each mapped to the demand. Labelled points are easy to mark and easy to count.
4 The post is more stable since names can sound alike; record both. Similar-sounding names are a common trap; a name alone can be misassigned.
5 It announces three difficulties coming one by one, a clear cue to write. Phrases like one by one or the following points preview the questions.
6 Subtract the target from the result and state the direction: short of target or over it. A gap needs its direction; the number alone is incomplete.
7 Take the step flagged by a superlative such as most important or critical. Superlatives are the anchors for ranking and choice questions.
8 They are provisional, so answers must keep the preliminary qualifier. A closing qualifier changes how definite the whole passage is.
9 Only the ground both sides accept; leave disagreements out or mark them separately. Consensus is not majority opinion; both sides must accept it.
10 Use the tidy-up only to add missing keywords, never to rewrite. Tidy-up time is for filling gaps, not for neatening.

04 What to do after marking

  • After marking, redo only the wrong items and write down which step went wrong (formula, unit, or misread number).
  • Repeat the same item two days later; move to the next paper only when both attempts are correct.
  • Parents only need the answer and note columns; there is no need to explain every item.
