HKDSE English Paper 3 Mock (2027): Listening and Integrated Skills with Transcripts and Answers
- 2026-10-09
TUTORZONE ORIGINAL MOCK PAPER · HKDSE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PAPER 3 (LISTENING AND INTEGRATED SKILLS)
Written to the HKEAA 2027 framework: English Paper 3 (Listening and Integrated Skills) is 30% of the subject over about 2 hours, in two parts worth 15% each; all candidates must do Part A and choose B1 or B2 in Part B. This paper provides original transcripts, Part A items, a Part B integrated task and model answers with mark allocation.
What is in HKDSE English Paper 3?
Direct answer: English Paper 3 (Listening and Integrated Skills) is 30% of the subject over about 2 hours, in two parts worth 15% each: Part A is compulsory for all candidates and Part B offers B1 or B2. The subject also has Paper 1 Reading 20%, Paper 2 Writing 25%, Paper 4 Speaking 10% and SBA 15%.

Assessment at a glance (2027)
| Component | Content | Weighting | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part A (short tasks) | Compulsory for all candidates; 15% of the subject mark | 15% | 40-45 min |
| Part B (integrated skills, choose B1 or B2) | Choose B1 or B2; 15% of the subject mark | 15% | 70-75 min |
| Whole paper | 30% together; the subject also has Reading 20%, Writing 25%, Speaking 10% and SBA 15% | 30% | about 2 hours |
About 120 minutes: 40-45 for Part A and 70-75 for Part B. Part A answers usually require inference across sentences, so copying one sentence tends to earn half marks; Part B rewards using the data, so every point must cite a figure or fact from the materials.
How this paper was built
This is a TutorZone original mock paper: the transcripts, items, model answers and mark allocation are TutorZone originals, not HKEAA questions or HKEAA recordings.
The transcript is printed: ask a teacher or classmate to read it aloud once to recreate the listening situation, or attempt the items first and then use the transcript to see which line you misheard.
Pacing
| Section | Marks | Suggested time | What to do first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part A (short tasks) | 15% | about 40-45 min | Read the items before listening; answers usually need inference |
| Part B (integrated skills, choose B1 or B2) | 15% | about 70-75 min | Every point must cite a figure from the data |
| Whole paper | 30% | about 120 minutes | Outline Part B before transferring data |
How should the roughly 120 minutes be split?
Direct answer: about 40-45 minutes for Part A and 70-75 for Part B. Read the Part A items before listening; in Part B outline first and then transfer each figure from the data, because integrated skills are marked on data use.
Part A: short tasks (4 items with transcript)
Read the items first, then listen; watch dates, numbers and negatives.
Question 1 (12 marks)
Part A (listening, sample item)
Transcript (original, TutorZone copyright): “Students, the library is trialling new arrangements from next month. Opening hours become 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and closed on Sunday. Overdue fines rise to two dollars per day. Study-room bookings move online, with a maximum of four hours per person per day.”
(a) State the Saturday opening hours; (b) how much is the daily overdue fine? (c) How long may a person book a study room each day? (d) If you must return a book on Sunday, what would you do?
Question 2 (10 marks)
Part A (question 2)
Transcript: “The inter-school debate preliminary round takes place on 11 April. Teams of three must submit their member list and preferred motion by 20 March. Winning teams debate the final on 25 April. All participants must attend a pre-competition workshop on 4 April.”
Complete the table: (a) preliminary date; (b) team size; (c) registration deadline; (d) the compulsory event and its date.
Part B: integrated skills (choose B1 or B2)
Cite a figure in every point and outline before writing.
Question 1 (18 marks)
Part B (integrated skills, choose B1 or B2)
Situation: as chairperson of the school’s environmental club, write a proposal to the principal for a campus waste-reduction plan: an interpretation of one data point, two feasible measures, and an implementation timetable.
Data (extract): about 120 disposable lunch boxes are discarded daily; there are only six recycling bins, all on the ground floor; a survey shows 68% of students are willing to bring their own boxes but only 21% would rinse recyclables.
Write about 400 words.
Question 2 (10 marks)
Part B (continued): if you choose B2 rather than B1 the demand is the same but with more data and deeper analysis. State two ways you would judge the reliability of the data.
Does this paper include a transcript, and how should I practise?
Direct answer: yes – the paper prints an original TutorZone transcript: have a teacher or classmate read it aloud once to recreate listening conditions, or attempt the items and then compare with the transcript to find the lines you misheard. Part B comes with a model answer and mark allocation.
Part A answers and mark allocation
Question 1
(a) 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (2 marks); (b) two dollars per day (2 marks); (c) four hours (2 marks); (d) return it before 5 p.m. on Saturday, or use the book-drop or renew online so the Sunday closure does not make it overdue (2 marks), showing the inference from “closed Sunday” to “return by Saturday” (4 marks).
Question 2
(a) 11 April (2 marks); (b) three (2 marks); (c) 20 March (2 marks); (d) the pre-competition workshop on 4 April (4 marks).
Part B model answer and mark allocation
Question 1
Model answer structure: (1) interpretation – 120 boxes a day with only six ground-floor bins while 68% are willing to bring their own boxes shows the gap is convenience, not willingness, and the 21% rinsing figure shows education and facilities are needed (6 marks); (2) measure one – add collection points on every floor with rinsing stations to cut the effort involved (4 marks); (3) measure two – a discount scheme with the caterer for students bringing their own boxes plus an inter-class competition (4 marks); (4) timetable – baseline survey in September, facilities and an education week in October, review of the recycling rate and a report to the principal in November (4 marks).
Question 2
(1) Sample and method: the sample size, whether the sampling covered only one year group, and whether the wording was leading (5 marks); (2) source and currency: whether the figures are the school’s own or from an external report, how old they are, and whether anyone else checked them (5 marks). B2 marks come from analysis – name the limitation, then say how you would fix it.
Where are Paper 3 marks most easily lost?
Direct answer: copying a single sentence in Part A when inference is needed; missing negatives such as not, unless and except; writing general points in Part B without citing figures; and choosing the wrong Part B option.
Where these marks are usually lost
| Mistake | What it looks like | What it costs | Instead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copying one sentence | Writing exactly what you heard | Part A answers need inference across sentences | Merge the information from two or three sentences |
| Missing negatives | Not catching not, unless or except | The meaning flips | Mark transition words the moment you hear them |
| Vague Part B points | “recycling is important” | Integrated skills are marked on data use | Cite a figure or fact from the materials in every point |
| Choosing the wrong Part B | Picking at random | B2 has more data and demands deeper analysis | Check the data volume and the task before deciding |
How to use this paper
First sit: have someone read the transcript aloud (or read it once without looking), then work the items under time.
Mark it: check whether each Part A answer needed inference, and whether every Part B point cites data.
Second sit: redo it three to seven days later, aiming for full marks in Part A and a Part B finished inside 45 minutes.
What should I do after this paper?
Direct answer: build a shorthand (separate marks for dates, numbers, transitions and negatives); train Part B as outline, cite data, conclude; do one real listening practice a week and log what you misheard; then redo this paper three to seven days later.
